This bike route combines the natural beauty of the Hallerbos with the heritage of the city of Halle and recreational activities in the Huizingen Provincial Park. Sometimes you’ll have to really pedal—the Hallerbos can be quite challenging—but along the Charleroi-Brussels Canal, it’s a blissfully flat ride. Here, you’ll also spot “The Enchanted Forest,” Europe’s largest street art installation. Along the way, you’re sure to pass a great pub or brasserie where you can sample local specialties.
Short Hallerbos Route
You can also start this route at the Halle train station, at junction 65, and make it a shorter version. At junction 52, cycle to junction 50, bringing the route to 18.7 km. Even on this shorter route, you won’t have to miss the purple carpet of wild hyacinths (late April)!
Before you set off:
Due to the renovation of the Bospoort Bridge in Halle, junction 65 has been modified, and because of improvement work on the canal and its banks, a section of the bike network between junctions 65 and 28 (= F20 bike highway) is currently inaccessible. Follow the detour via Bergensesteenweg. On weekends, you can also use the other bank of the canal between Halle and Lembeek. The Short Hallerbos Route is then 19.3 km long.
