It’s a surprisingly peaceful walk, close to Brussels Airport. Every now and then, a plane roars overhead, which only makes your hike even more impressive. You start at Kasteel ter Ham, a beautifully renovated 15th-century moated castle, before heading into the woods and then walking through open fields with sweeping views. It was in these fields that the worst plane crash in Belgian history occurred in 1961. Sabena Flight 548 crashed, and 73 people—including the entire U.S. figure skating team and a farmer working in the field—lost their lives. A commemorative plaque tells the whole story.
