The Silsombos is enchantingly beautiful all year round, but especially in the early summer sun, when thousands of forest orchids and giant horsetails several meters tall begin to bloom. Beware of the Black Lady—a dark legend surrounds this statue of the Virgin Mary on the banks of the Molenbeek. Voices are said to lead late visitors to the Molenbeek, where they then drown. You won’t need a life jacket, but sturdy walking shoes or boots will come in handy because it can get quite muddy.
Before you set out: Wear sturdy walking shoes or boots, as it’s quite muddy and the boardwalks are in poor condition.
In summer weather, there can be a lot of mosquitoes in the Silsom Forest. Be sure to wear appropriate clothing and/or bring mosquito repellent.
