In 1125, Godfrey the Bearded donated a plot of land along the Vlierbeek, on the outskirts of Leuven, to the Benedictine Abbey of Affligem. The Benedictines built a priory there and later an abbey, which remains an oasis of tranquility to this day. The sandstone abbey church serves as the parish church of Vlierbeek. The walk takes you over the Chartreuzenberg and Kesselberg hills and winds through the provincial park in Kessel-Lo. You can relax afterward at the In Den Rozenkrans tavern on the abbey grounds.
