Averbode Abbey has been a beacon of tranquility among the greenery of Averbode Forest and Heath since 1134. On the initiative of Count Arnold II of Loon, Norbertines settled here, still today with a community of about thirty fathers. Around the spacious courtyard the abbey buildings reflect in the mirror pond, the Gothic gatehouse from the 14th century being the oldest part.
In experience center Het Moment you will find genuine abbey products such as Averbode beer, bread and cheese, and you can also just eat well. In summer, the Lekdreef beckons with artisanal ice cream.
