Saint Norbert himself founded Belgium’s oldest still-inhabited Norbertine abbey between 1126 and 1128. War and fire reduced the abbey to ashes three times, but each time it rose again stronger than ever, with the phoenix as its symbol. The richly decorated St. Servatius Basilica forms the historic heart of the abbey, regularly hosting beautiful organ concerts. Within its walls, a brand-new microbrewery has emerged: a modern innovation center that combines ancient monastic wisdom with new techniques. Discover it all in the interactive “The New Grimbergen Experience.”
