Stroll through the network of streets, squares, gardens and parks of the Groot Begijnhof in Leuven. The sandstone houses and convents are draped around St. John the Baptist Church. A picturesque village in the city, it seems. It dates back as far as the 13th century. During its heyday in the 17th century, some 360 beguines lived there. Today the houses are inhabited by students, visiting professors and university employees. It has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1998.

Saint John the Baptist Church can be visited from Tuesday to Friday between 1:30 and 4:30 p.m. Every first and third Wednesday of the month there is a concert on the carillon from 7 to 8 pm.
