Horst Castle is an iconic beacon in the Hageland hills. The picturesque moated castle first appears in written sources as early as 1434. The robust square residential tower from the 15th century still stands as it did when the Red Knight lived there, at least in the comic series. In the 17th century Maria-Anna Van den Tympel gave the castle extra grandeur with a chapel, coach house and banquet rooms with refined stucco work. Then the castle went out of fashion, and fortunately so, because that is precisely why it was preserved so authentically.
