One cobbled street with two cul-de-sacs, that's all it is. But the Small Beguinage does tell a special piece of city history dating back to the 13th century. Here lived the beguines who chose a simple and devoted life. It remained inhabited until the 19th century, although the community was never large. Today you walk past some thirty whitewashed houses in traditional Flemish style, carefully restored in 2000 and now re-occupied. Combine your visit with a detour past the nearby St. Geertrui Abbey.
