The Virgo Tower seems to watch over the Demer, and in fact it does. Reinier II van Schoonvorst had it built in the 14th century on the strategic border between Brabant and Loon. The ironstone walls at its base are as much as four meters thick. After a much-needed restoration, a viewing platform was added on top with a wide view of the Demer valley. The name Virgin Tower refers to the tragic legend of Rosita who paid for her love for a common soldier with her life.

The Tower of Virgo is not accessible by car. By foot you can reach the tower via node 208 and 134 of the walking network de Merode. Cyclists follow the cycling network to node 59 in Zichem.
