Museum44 tells the gripping story of the roundups of August 1 and 11, 1944 in Meensel-Kiezegem. Shortly before liberation, nearly one hundred inhabitants were rounded up, 71 of them deported to Neuengamme concentration camp near Hamburg. Only eight returned. With personal stories, an interactive animation film and virtual reality, Museum44 shows how these events permanently marked the village. At the same time, the museum makes connections to contemporary forms of violence and injustice.
