The Church of Our Lady of the Poles has dominated Tienen's Market Square for centuries. With its impressive tower, it is considered the cradle of Brabant High Gothic. The west facade immediately catches the eye, with three richly decorated portals whose niches show scenes from the Old and New Testament. After a fire, the 70-meter tower received a Baroque spire in 1654, today the city's landmark. Inside, Baroque furnishings dominate, with altars and confessionals, and the 1635 painting The Exaltation of the Cross from the studio of Anthony van Dyck.
