The Herisem mill in Alsemberg is a rare witness to the 19th century paper and cardboard industry. The industrial complex grew out of a 16th-century paper mill and remained remarkably intact. The machinery has stood there virtually untouched since the mill closed its doors in 1940. Today, Philippe Winderickx manages the site, as great-great-great-grandson of Gillis Winderickx, who acquired the mill in 1763. Herisem is now a unique visitor center that takes you on an industrial journey through time, straight to the heyday of the cardboard industry.

Visits at other times during the week are also possible, but only by prior booking.
Advance reservations are required for groups accompanied by one or more guides. Customized tours also available for schools.
Covered wagon rides are available through the Mill Creek valley, in the vicinity of the Paper Mill.
During the Steam Days, the 100-year-old steam engine is put back into operation. These Steam Days always take place on the first Sunday in June and the third Sunday in November between 2 and 5 pm.
Overnight stays in the Warehouse and former joinery are available for groups.
