Castle 't Steen is actually what it is called. But because Pieter-Paul Rubens purchased the property in 1635 as a country residence and spent the last days of his life there, everyone knows it as Rubens Castle. Rubens had the original feudal castle converted into a castle in Flemish Renaissance style. In 2019, it was purchased by Tourism Flanders, which is working to repurpose the beautiful castle.
