After the destruction of the old library in World War I, between 1921 and 1928 a monumental building in neo-Renaissance style arose on the Ladeuzeplein in Leuven. With American money. While climbing the 80-meter-high tower, you discover that eventful (war) history floor by floor, with photos and stories. A panoramic view of Leuven awaits you at the top. On the way up, cast a glance at the impressive reading room, and listen to the sound of the 'Liberty Bell' indicating the hour.
Practical
On Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, they are open from 10 am to 6 pm. Guided tour of the library (in Dutch) on Saturdays from 2 pm to 3 pm.
Groups can only make reservations through KU Leuven
Please note: the reading room is only accessible during the weekend. This way you respect the quiet of the students during the week.
On Tuesday evenings and Wednesday afternoons, you can combine a visit to the tower with a carillon performance. The carillonneur guides you through the library tower and the photo exhibition and finally takes you to the keyboard room for a carillon recital. View the carillon playing calendar.
