Crossing through Machelen
Machelen may be sandwiched between the airport, the Brussels Ring and the E19, but it surprises with a handsome heritage. The Marga Pavilion, once the medieval seat of the Lords of Diegem, is now the municipal cultural center. Pellenberg Castle, perhaps the oldest building in the municipality, evolved from fortress to fully restored sociocultural center with library. Beaulieu Castle is a baroque jewel along Boulevard de la Woluwe. There are also three churches full of character, the Donjon-Hoeve Vermeren and a large skate park on the Bosveld leisure site. In December, Diegem is the setting for the mythical cyclocross race Diegem Cross.
