When Joos Frans Lindemans married Francisca, the brewer’s daughter, in 1822, he laid the foundations for the Lindemans brewery. Six generations later, cousins Dirk and Geert Lindemans lead a team of staff at the country’s largest independent family-run lambic brewery, firmly rooted in the region.

Story
Lindemans Brewery has deep roots in the Pajottenland region, in the hamlet of Kwadewegen in Vlezenbeek. As early as the 16th century, Hof ter Kwadewegen was an inn situated along the busy route between Brussels, East Flanders and Hainaut. During the winter months, beer was brewed to keep the farmers busy and to quench their thirst. In 1822, the Lindemans family moved in, when Joos Frans Lindemans married Francisca Josina Vandermissen, the brewer’s daughter. Thus began a family tradition that has now continued for six generations.
Today, cousins Dirk and Geert Lindemans run the country’s largest independent family-owned lambic brewery. Rooted in tradition yet innovative, Lindemans was the first to launch a non-alcoholic kriek beer. The Kriek 0.0% contains just as many pressed sour cherries as the alcoholic version, and the flavours are the same too – only the alcohol is missing.
Lindemans is firmly rooted in the region, not least through community life: since 2015, they have been the proud main sponsor of the Lindemans Aalst volleyball team. Sustainability is also high on the agenda. Every year, they organise the Lindemans Lambic Trail on Car-Free Sunday to promote sustainable mobility. Lindemans has, in fact, only just invested in a brand-new satellite brewery in Ruisbroek to ensure growth. It is situated close to the Brussels–Charleroi Canal, so that transport can also take place by water. In this way, this centuries-old brewery remains not only locally relevant but also socially relevant.
