Marquise Arconati Visconti made Gaasbeek Castle her dream residence. What Godfrey of Louvain had built in 1236 as a defensive stronghold, she transformed into a romantic castle in neo-Renaissance style, filled with art, precious ironwork and the finest stained glass windows. In her will, she donated the castle to the Belgian state in 1923. Inside you experience her dream world, outside you walk through the vast park past a pleasure pavilion, a triumphal arch and the special museum garden full of fruit.
Practical
From October onwards, the castle closes at 5 pm. It is always closed on Mondays, except on public holidays.
A castle visit takes an average of an hour and a half. Allow 15 minutes walking time between the parking lot or entrance building and the castle.
Group visits are possible on all opening days of the castle except Sunday afternoons. Group visits start between 10 am and 3:30 pm. Please make reservations on time.
Reserve at least 4 weeks in advance.
Combination tickets are available to combine your visit to the Museum Garden with a visit to Gaasbeek Castle.
