He actually wanted to become a winegrower, but his love of brewing beer got the better of him. Bart Devillé single-handedly converted an old pub in Buizingen into Brouwerij Den Herberg – complete with a proper inn. There, his son Akke and daughter Charlien happily serve the house’s freshly brewed beers. So you can taste them straight from the source.

Story
Actually, Bart Devillé wanted to move to France to make wine. But it turned out to be beer. Instead of a course in winemaking, he opted for a course in beer brewing. He single-handedly converted the old café in Buizingen – which he’d bought with his wife Ann Heremans as a warehouse for their construction firm – into Den Herberg Brewery, complete with a cosy inn.
There, his son Akke and daughter Charlien serve the house beers: Herberg Blond, Tarwe, Tripel, Bruin and Cuvée Devillé. And, out of love for the region, lambic and geuze are, of course, a must. The lambic matures in oak barrels, both at the brewery in Buizingen and at the farm in Lembeek. Bart doesn’t do this alone: his son Akke learnt the trade from his father and helps out wholeheartedly.
Fancy a tasting? You can simply do that on the spot, in the cosy, characterful inn where the beer always flows fresh from the tap.

Visit and guided tour
You’re welcome to visit the brewery any day, but please do book in advance. Afterwards, pop into the pub and choose whichever beer you’d like to taste. It doesn’t get any fresher than this!

🦽 The brewery is accessible. The toilets in the adjoining café are not adapted for disabled access, but are accessible.

In this cosy, characterful café, suitable for all ages, you can sample a range of home-brewed beers, as well as an extensive selection of other beers, aged Geuze, aged cherry beers, cocktails and more.
