A particularly small but quirky brewery. Five friends brew lambic, saison and old brown, unpacking surprising flavors and blends with fanciful names like Hurdy Hurry or Children of the Grapes. They use local grain and fruit, herbs or even blackthorn that they pick during their bike rides through the region.

Story

Donder Brews is one of the tiniest breweries in Lambic Country, but big on creativity. Five friends - Jan, Koen, Wiet, Filip and Mathieu - started brewing out of love at the Donderberg in Jette. They make lambic, saison and oud bruin, exclusively through spontaneous fermentation during cold nights. They brew only fourteen times per season, after which the beer matures further in Vlezenbeek in thirty barriques from Burgundy and Piedmont.

The result? Beers with resounding names such as the lambic Hurdy Hurry, the gueuze Ziggy Sitar Dust Raga, the blond beer Le Sourire Volé or Children of the Grapes, a lambic macerated with grapes.

The grain simply comes from a local farmer in the Pajottenland region. By the way, you can regularly see the friends cycling through Lambic Country, looking for blackthorn for their old brown Serclaes Dente. Many other herbs play a role in their creations, such as sage in the quince lambic and rosemary in the rhubarb lambic.

Experience

Don't expect big brewing equipment or a basement full of foeders here. Thunder Brews is small, but delightfully quirky.
