With the support of Tourism Flanders, Visit Flemish Brabant commissioned 10 cycling-themed street art pieces. The street art pieces were created by the Leuven-based street art collective Treepack.

1. Street art by EDDY MERCKX in his home village of Kiezegem
📍 Café ’t Klein Verlet, Tieltsestraat 18, 3391 Tielt-Winge
🚴 Eddy Merckx Sport Cycling Route – 70 km
🚴 Eddy Merckx Sport Cycling Route - 150 km
🚴 Sven Nys Sport cycling Route - 101 km
🚴 Eddy Merckx ‘Little Cannibal’ Route - 37 km
🥾 Meensel–Kiezegem walk – 14.4 km
This mural pays tribute to Eddy Merckx. The artwork contains numerous references to Eddy’s impressive career. For example, the jersey he is wearing is the one in which he won his first Tour de France, and the cap is the one he wore when he won his last Tour. Merckx’s well-known nicknames are incorporated into the background in the form of newspaper headlines. The number ‘525’ refers to the total number of stage wins in his career, which to this day still earns him the title of greatest cyclist of all time.
2. Street art KORBEEK-DIJLE
📍 Stationsstraat 2, 3060 Korbeek-Dijle
🚴 The Brabantse Pijl Sport cycling Route - 97 km
🚴 World Championships Gravel Route Brabantse Wouden - 136 km
🚴 European & Belgian Championships Gravel Route Brabantse Wouden - 78 km
🚴 The Brabantse Pijl ‘Kleine Kannibaal’ Route - 39 km
🥾 Ruwaal Walk - 5.5 km
A dynamic peloton of sport cycling heroes, with a female rider at its centre, races passionately past the wall on the Brabantse Pijl Cycling Route in Bertem. The background subtly depicts the transition from Flemish cobbled classics to Walloon mountain races, weaving the design into the local cycling history.
3. Street art OVERIJSE
📍 Nijvelsebaan, 3090 Overijse
🚴 Flandrien Loop - 66 km
🚴 The Brabant Arrow Small Cannibal Route - 23 km
The artwork refers to the many supporters who cheered on the riders during the 2021 World Cycling Championships as they battled for the world title. Now, the public cheers on the many cycling tourists who ride the Flandrien Loop here.
4. Street art DIEST
📍 Kluisbergstraat, 3290 Diest
🚴 Straight through the Hageland gravel route - 80 km
🚲 Reynvaert Route - 42 km
The abstract depiction of a cyclist amidst a cloud of dust takes one’s mind to the ‘Dwars door het Hageland’ race, which takes place in Diest in late spring. The composition exudes a sense of speed, but also captures the ruggedness and action of gravel cycling. This serves as a representation of the joy of a good, muddy gravel ride. The long, narrow horizontal surface and the image are arranged in such a way that the scene unfolds like a film as you pass by or simply by looking at it. The aim is for you to feel the moment. As a result, the viewer will oscillate between the sensation of the moment while cycling and the aesthetics of a mural.
5. Street art at PALM BREWERY in Steenhuffel
📍 Palm Brewery, Steenhuffeldorp 1, 1840 Londerzeel
🚴 Cornet Gravel Route - 117 km
🚲 Diepensteyn Route - 40 km
The artwork ‘The Steel Cyclist’ depicts the Knight of Cornet carrying his steel steed on his shoulders. The bicycle is both his weapon and his shield. His velvety green cloak is a nod to Palm. The static pose and the intimidating gaze radiate pure strength and determination, making the monumental sculpture a real eye-catcher. The colour palette and the balanced composition ensure that the mural blends in with its surroundings.
6. Street art by SVEN NYS
📍 Hellegat, 3221 Holsbeek
🚴 Sven Nys Sport cycling Route – 101 km
🚲 Ter Heideroute – 44 km
🚴 Sven Nys ‘Little Cannibal’ Route - 46 km
The work of artist Sam Billen exudes cyclo-cross. A few riders, bent forward over their handlebars, plough their way through the tunnel. At the centre of the work stands the Cannibal of Baal, revelling in his sport. The mud seems to be splattering right off the artwork.
7. Street art REMCO EVENEPOEL
📍 Café Meyts-Pollé, Zwarte Molenstraat 24, 1671 Elingen
🚴 R.EV 1703 Sport cycling Route – 95 km
🚴 R.EV 1703 Little Cannibal Route - 25.6 km
🚲 Lambiek-Zuun Route – 51 km (the artwork is 40 metres from the cycle route)
🥾 Four Villages Walk – 11.3 km (the artwork is 40 metres from the walking route)
The artwork “Rainbow Remco: Aerobullet” depicts a monumental portrait of top talent Remco Evenepoel. The portrait exudes strength and looks ahead to the future. The colours of the rainbow jersey are incorporated into the portrait, as Remco became world champion at a young age in both the road race and the individual time trial. Remco is also Belgian road champion, hence the Belgian tricolour in the artwork. The motion blur in the tricolour stems from Remco’s silhouette as he races on a time trial bike in his typical, recognisable posture (the rear wheel of the bike also serves as a stopwatch). Thanks to this posture, Remco is also nicknamed ‘Aerobullet’, which is also written on his cycling helmet.
8. Street art BIERHUIS OUD-BEERSEL
📍 Bierhuis Oud-Beersel, Laarheidestraat 230, 1650 Beersel
🚴 Geuze Gravel Route – 97 km
🚲 Wild Yeast Route – 33 km
🥾 Kesterbeek Walk – 8.1 km
9. Street art ROMMERSOM
📍 Railway underpass, Rommersom, 3320 Hoegaarden
🚴 Pallox Gravel Route – 117 km
The route describes the fruit-growing region as a challenging gravel paradise, criss-crossed by gravel tracks, tough cobbled sections and country lanes winding through the most beautiful landscapes.
10. Street art by JASPER STUYVEN in LEUVEN
📍 Ramberg z/n, 3000 Leuven
🚴 World Championships gravel route Brabantse Wouden – 135.7 km
🚴 World Championships gravel route variant 2 – Leuven loop – 80 km
🚴 Dijleland Gravel Route – 103.4 km
🚴 Flandrien loop 66 km – 66 km
This mural honours the Belgian cyclist Jasper Stuyven. The dynamic image conveys a sense of speed, as Jasper is known as a strong sprinter. After a solo break of just under 30 km, Jasper Stuyven became the first rider to win both the Belgian and European gravel titles. Hence the jersey featuring the Belgian tricolour and the stars in the blue stripe, as a reference to these titles.
