When you combine the divine drink ambrosia and geuze, you get Ambreus. The cutting plant uses lambic from Den Herberg, De Troch and Lindemans breweries for a unique blend. Stekers Bastiaan, Pieterjan, Erik and Jean-Pierre combine tradition with innovation and work sustainably, with the ambition to produce CO2 neutrally. In 2024 they proudly uncorked the very first Oude Geuze Ambreus.

Story

Ambreus is the Geuze distillery of Bastiaan Driesen, Pieterjan and Erik Decoster and their father Jean-Pierre. Back in 2018, they dreamed of making their own Oude Geuze. Not just any geuze: they wanted to make one with lambic from different breweries to create a unique blend. To do so, they knocked on the doors of Den Herberg, De Troch and Lindemans.
The first pitching season started with 24 barrels in Jean-Pierre's garage, but it soon proved too small. They found the solution in café De Kleine Ardennen in Buizingen, which they jointly converted into a fully-fledged Geuze steaming plant.

Ambreus is firmly entrenched in lambic country. Kloris Devillé of Den Herberg and Pauwel Raes of De Troch gave advice and helped where necessary. Fourteen enthusiastic volunteers came to the rescue to bottle 4,000 liters of geuze in a day and a half. After a year of re-fermentation and maturation, the time had finally come in 2024: the first bottles of Oude Geuze Ambreus were uncorked, tasted and approved. In 2025, a variant with fleece blossom was added.

Tradition and innovation go hand in hand here. The brewers experiment with new techniques and are strongly committed to sustainability: green energy, maximum sorting and recycling, electrically powered equipment and biodegradable materials to replace plastic. And the name? Ambreus is a contraction of ambrosia - the drink of the gods - and gueuze.
