Gert Christiaens did more than save Oud Beersel from permanent closure. He brought a breath of fresh air with unique beers such as lambic with infusions of herbs and even tea, and other innovative ideas. The sparkling heart is Het Bierhuis where you can taste the beers and the region. In the large cherry orchard there are regular events.

Story
When brewer Henri Vandervelden quit, the news hit like a bomb in Beersel. Brewery Oud Beersel, a household name in the region since 1882, threatened to disappear. But beer enthusiast Gert Christiaens didn't let it go that far. He learned the tricks of the trade from Henri and breathed new life into the brewery as a gueuze brewery. The lambic beer itself is brewed at Boon Brewery but still according to Henri's recipe. It matures in barrels, pipes and casks in the old Oud Beersel brewery buildings.
Gert gave the lambic tradition a fresh twist with unique and innovative beers. Think of lambic with infusions of herbs, fruit, tea or a maceration of walnuts and organically grown rhubarb. Or lambic in a pressure-resistant BEER BOX. Here, innovation goes hand in hand with tradition.
Beer is of course experienced in good company, in the region itself. That is why Gert reopened Het Bierhuis, the former pub of the brewery. It had been taken over by a flower store. There you can taste the extensive beer selection, with a menu full of regional dishes and beer nibbles.
Beersel is bustling again, with regular fun events in the Geuze steakhouse and in the cherry orchard behind the brewery.

Visit and guided tour
Every Saturday you can visit Oud Beersel on a guided tour. Choose from Dutch and English as your language. In group can be done by appointment at other times.
🧍🏻Elke Saturday brewery visits at 11am and at 4pm in Dutch. At noon and at 5 p.m. in English.
A tour lasts 45 min with a tasting afterwards.
🧍🏻🧍🏻Groepen from 8 persons and up can follow a brewery tour on request from Friday to Sunday during the opening hours of the Beer House.
The Beer House
Here you taste the whole range of beers - and there are many - as well as beer nibbles and hot regional dishes.
🕙 Open on Friday from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
🦽 The site is accessible. However, there is no adapted plumbing.

Plenty of choice, and with each beer you get a word of explanation about its subtle flavors and historical background. You'll find e smoke gift packs, T-shirts, glasses and other gadgets.
