A tour of Haacht
In 1980 Philippe de Spoelberch started his botanical collection on the castle grounds. This grew into the Arboretum Wespelaar, today good for more than 2000 plant species. Lovely to stroll through, just like the Antitank canal. What was once a defense line during WWII is now a nature-rich walking spot. The bunkers house big-eared bats, and in spring wood anemones, primroses, muskwort and violets color the paths. In turn, the old castle site of the Lords of Roost is a neighborhood park with information boards about the vanished domain. And in farm brewery Hof ten Dormaal, the Janssens family brews their own hops and barley.
"From a stylish arboretum full of color to the wild nature of Antitankgracht."
