Sidy Hanssens continues a tradition that began with her great-grandfather Bartholomé. Together with her husband John she traditionally brews Oude Geuze, Geuze Extra, Oude Kriek, Schaarbeekse Kriek and fruit lambics. Always with fresh fruit, without juices. Sustainability is also important, the brewery captures 18,000 liters of rainwater to clean the barrels and solar panels provide green energy.

Story
"The world's oldest family gueuze brewery," says Sidy Hanssens. And she's right. The story began with her great-grandfather Bartholomé Hanssens, who founded Brewery Saint Antonius. Originally, it didn't brew lambic, but a brown table beer.
During World War I, the Germans seized all the copperware. In 1918, Bartholomé decided not to start up the brewery again, but from now on only to buy and cut wort. The Hanssens family passed this tradition on from father to son and daughter. Since 1997, Sidy has been at the helm of Hanssens Artisanaal in the beautiful brewhouse in Dworp.
Together with her husband John they make traditional classics such as Oude Geuze, Geuze Extra, Oude Kriek, Schaarbeekse Kriek and fruit lambics. For the fruit beers, they use only fresh fruit, no juices, and the Schaarbeek cherries come from their own region. Sustainability is important here: the brewery collects 18,000 liters of rainwater in large tanks to clean the barrels, the barrel warehouse is insulated and solar panels provide green energy.
